National Australia Bank’s Melbourne headquarters at 395 Bourke Street occupies a new light-filled building designed to support the bank’s hybrid working model.
Bringing employees closer to customers is central to NAB’s vision for their new Melbourne headquarters.
Spanning 39 levels, the workplace designed by Hassell features open, flexible spaces in response to NAB’s values of empathy, accessibility and collaboration.
Studio Ongarato’s signage and wayfinding solution draws on themes of community, connectivity and transparency to align site identity and workplace branding to a clear navigation system throughout the building.
The embedded NAB logo provides a sculptural brand presence and contributes a sense of sophistication to the future-focused workplace.
The concept of ‘support system’ is embodied in the expressed interlocking frames and articulated fixings which lend a sense of craft to the sign family. Considered typography and bespoke pictograms bring NAB’s human-centric values into the workplace environment. Bold tactile text is also incorporated, providing staff and visitors with inclusive and clear wayfinding information, particularly for the visually impaired.
Responding to the authentic materiality of the architectural palette, signs feature a range of materials, polished plaster, translucent marblo, natural aluminium and plywood.
Key destinations are heralded by translucent digital totems – large-scale modular columns with scrolling messages. A programable and engaging gesture that represents free flowing communication throughout the bank, offering pathways that are both instructive and responsive to user requirements.
